This major work by Johann Sebastian Bach— *The Art of Fugue*—is presented in a highly original version that highlights counterpoint, an art of dialogue between musical lines that the Cantor of Leipzig brought to its pinnacle. “Piano Phase,” by the minimalist composer Steve Reich, explores this same dialogue through the musical language of the 20th century.
